Put Yourself In The Picture

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

I talked a few times about this important step in the manifestation process, which is creating a picture, or an image, of what your end-goal looks and feels like. Once you have that picture, you can play with it, contemplate on it, add things, take away things, etc. The ‘Ideal Life’ visualization that I described in the past is also based on this very picture. There is one small, important details that turns out some people miss – putting themselves in the picture.

Kenn Gordon told a story as a joke on this very topic in order to illustrate the point. The story goes something like this. This guy – we’ll call him Mike – watched ‘The Secret’ and was fascinated by the Law of Attraction, so he decided to attract a brand-spanking-new red Maserati into his life. So he goes down to his garage and cleans it all up to create a space for this new red Maserati. He puts up a large Maserati poster on the front wall and paints the side wall red. He pictures that red Maserati in his garage twice a day – once in the morning and once before going to bed. After about a month of this, his income is not increasing and the red Maserati seems as far away as it was when he started. That weekend, as Mike is mowing his lawn, his neighbour – we’ll call him Jim – walk up to chit-chat for a few minutes. Seeing the open garage with a clean, neat space, he asks Mike, “Hey, I just got a brand new red Maserati, but I don’t have an extra stall in my garage to put it. Do you mind if I rent that open space from you?” *laughter*

Mike did all the things right, and ended up attracting the red Maserati to his garage…but he forgot to put himself in the picture. Try not to make the same mistake…

Emotion And Feeling

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

In class last night we had a lengthy discussion on how emotions differ from feelings; people had ideas, but no one seemed to be able to effectively get their point across to the rest of the class where they agreed. Often people use these words interchangeably, but when you study this in a little more detail, there is a difference between the two. And the most peculiar thing is that the difference is not very well defined. I’ll give you my understanding of the difference between the two, but I’d really like it if you could add your thoughts through the comments.

My understanding is that feelings are physiological responses to stimuli, where a physiological response involves the chemistry of your body, and a stimuli can be a thought, a external event or occurrence, someone’s words or touch, etc. Feelings are physical and chemical changes in your physiology – you feel love, anger, frustration, stress, and joy as a very real sensations in your body. Emotions, on the other hand, are the labels that we put on those sensations (happiness, love, anger, etc). So the two are closely related – no doubt – but they are not the same. First you have a stimulus, which creates a physical change in your body (a feeling), which we label with a name of a certain emotion.

Feelings are ‘absolute’, while emotions are ‘relative’. What I mean by that is that a given feeling is always the same (a feeling, again, being a certain physiological state of your body), but that same feeling can get a variety of labels from different people (called a number of different emotions). When I push on my desk, the desk pushes back (that would be equivalent to the feeling), but I can use several phrases to describe that behaviour (call it a number of emotions), like “for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction” or the “Newton’s Third Law of Motion”. They are different words describing the same overall idea.

Who knows, I may be out to lunch with this… what do you think?

Which Reality Is Real?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Well, the physical one – the one you can see, taste, touch, and experience! Right? Not exactly. In one of the Science of Mind classes, one of the facilitators, Dr. Kenn Gordon, pointed out the the physical world – the world where we know lack, limitation, and boundaries – is an illusion, while what people typically see as the ‘dream world’ – the place where everything is possible – is the Truth.

This can be a difficult idea to wrap your head around, but if you really think about it, you’ll realize that it’s actually the case. Now, I am not really talking about a world where you can fly, walk on water, and eat fire as being the real thing. We do, after all, live in a world with numerous laws which are all at work simultaneously. What I am talking about is how our experience of reality is fundamentally false because this experience is shaped by our beliefs.

Think of your beliefs as the electrical wiring in your house. While it is entirely possible to supply your house with much higher voltages and pump through much more current through the wires, if you were to do that, you would blow out your fuses, and failing that, would fry the entire electrical system and probably burn down your house. The electrical system that the house was built with physically limits the potential electrical power that you can put through it from the start. For you to pump more power through the system, you would need to re-wire the entire house (and find the appropriate power source). But if you always lived in that house and never heard about larger voltages and more powerful electrical currents, you’d think that 110V is all that is possible. But you know better than that.

Determining what is possible based on your current beliefs and the experience of life to date is, in my opinion, equivalent to saying that the wiring in your house is the end-all and the be-all of electrical potential. What I want to get across is that there is always a potential for more. You just need to re-wire your head with some beliefs that can candle the added juice of Life!

“From Good To ‘God’ To Great”

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Above is a simple phrase with a very profound message. The idea is simple – take your good concept or idea, turn it over to the care of the Universe, and turn it into something great! I heard it from Kenn Gordon in one of his wonderful, insightful Sunday talks and have been thinking about it for several weeks now. So, how do you turn your idea over to the care of the Universe?

One of the very important things, I think, is to let go of the idea of how events are supposed to unfold. It is important to have the end result in mind, so that you know where you are going, and you need to trust that you will get there, but what you do not need is to have an image in your mind of all the steps in between. For example, you may have an idea for a new marketing method that can revolutionize the entire field, and expect the largest marketing company in town to jump on board and embrace your concept. If that company does not like the idea, you may think that the idea is not worth much and give up. You see, in this situation, you are letting the picture of ‘how’ it is supposed to happen get in the way of ‘what’ you want to accomplish.

Instead, you can just dismiss their opinion of your idea as just that – their opinion – and talk to several other marketing companies. There is a good chance that the best company to help you grow will enthusiastically join you in your efforts. So try not to get discouraged if things don’t go exactly as you planned – just keep trucking along!

A word of caution though! By turning things over to the care of the Universe, I DO NOT mean that you just get to sit back and relax while the Universe will do all the work. From my experience, the Universe will do what it needs to do in order to make it as straight forward as possible for you to get to where you want to go. But it will not do it for you. So please pay attention to the little nudges and moments of clarity and inspiration from the Universe and be sure to act on them.

Until next time,

How To Get Your Intention

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Over the last three days we discussed the intention blocks – the things that stand between you and your intentions and prevent you from accomplishing what you are after. Today I want to quickly talk about the process that Kenn Gordon recommended for people to go through in order to manifest their intentions in their lives.

1. Consciously connect with the Universal Intelligence and set your intention. The reason to connect with the Universal Intelligence is to listen for that nudge from within to do something. Quite often the things that we think we want, are really not the things we truly want. For instance, you may think that you want a red sports car, while you are really seeking freedom. There is nothing wrong with wanting a red sports car – all I am saying is that you are a lot more likely to accomplish your goals if the goals are in resonance with you. Now, to connect to the Universal Intelligence, do what feels right. For me it is simply going into a meditative state and paying attention to the feelings and nudges within.

2. Recognize that you have the power to accomplish your intention. On many occasions we talked about how you and everything around you is energy and that you are subconsciously connected with the Universe. You need to recognize that, since you are one with the Universe, you can draw on Its energy to have enough power to accomplish your goals. You may be one of the lucky few who naturally feels the power within, but most of us, myself included, need that little bit of conscious work to see the power within.

3. Finally you need to have the patience to do what needs to be done and trust that what you are doing is taking you closer to your intention. Often we simply do not stick to the plan long enough and stop digging before we hit the gold. There is a story that I heard where a fellow bought a mine with hopes of finding gold. He kept digging and digging and eventually gave up because he did not find anything. He sold the mine for relative scraps, and the person who took over had to only dig 3 feet before he hit gold. Just think about it, how many times in your life did you give up and stop before the results came through? It is quite possible that your results were right around the corner. Now the past is in the past, but lets learn from it and make sure not to repeat the mis-takes we have made.

Tomorrow I will do a Spiritual Mind Treatment on this week’s topic of eliminating intention blocks and having the power to do what is necessary long enough to get the results you are seeking.

Until next time,

If You Lack Commitment To Accomplish Your Goals

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

Lack of true commitment is the ’second intention block’ and keeps many people from accomplishing their goals. We set long term goals, but have very short attention spans, and when we live in an environment where everything is becoming faster and takes less time, it makes even more difficult to see the long term goal through. Kenn Gordon used a really cool analogy; we set an intention to create financial abundance in our lives on Monday, and by the time Friday rolls around, we are disappointed and discouraged because our finances did not change. If you want to accomplish your goals, and I am talking about the long term goals here, you need to do what is necessary to make them happen, and part of that requirement is to give it enough time.

It is true, the Universe does not care and does not differentiate between something that we perceive as being a big goal and something that we think is a small goal. However, for everything there is a gestation period, and that is something that ‘The Secret’ did not mention. When you plant a seed, it takes a given amount of time to grow into a plant. When a baby is conceived, it takes 9 months for birth to take place. When a boat passes by in the middle of the lake, it takes a certain amount of time for the wake to get to shore. In each of those cases there are no instantaneous results, but the results are there every time after an appropriate gestation period.

The same applies to whatever it is that you want, except that it is virtually impossible to know the gestation period when you start. With a business, it is hard to know right away how long it will take for it to succeed, unless you are starting a franchise, where the gestation period can be estimated somewhat accurately. If you believe in what you are doing, if you believe in your goal and your intention, you need to stick to your guns and see it though. You need to do whatever it takes and you need to have trust and faith that it will work out in the end.

Sometimes you will want to get a certain client or a certain project and it will slip away from you. That often happens because you were not ready for that client or that project. It may have been too much for you to handle. So keep going. That being said, my disclaimer is that you need to pay attention to the feedback that the Universe is sending back to you. And this is quite often a difficult judgment call. I have seen many people who totally believe in their ideas, but the ideas never take off because they either suck, and in this case, no amount of faith and trust is going to help them. But there are also numerous examples like Google, where people did not believe that they would put a dent in MSN’s and Yahoo’s market share, and thought that Google was insane for thinking that companies would pay them for their Adwords campaign. But boy were they ever wrong! So this is a difficult call to make sometimes, though I am certain if you allow the Universe to nudge you, you will make the right decision.

Until next time,

If Your Beliefs Are Blocking Your Intention

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Most people do not get what they want, whether it is a relationship, a work situation, or something else, because they have beliefs that block that intention from manifesting. Some of your beliefs create, what Kenn Gordon referred to as, the ‘first intention block’. Recognizing this is a very important first step in removing that intention block, and I look at it as an opportunity to get rid of some useless baggage that I’ve been carrying around that I no longer need.

Some of your beliefs are conscious, that is you are aware that you have them, many more are subconscious, meaning that you don’t even know about them. Consciously trying to figure out your subconscious beliefs can be a grueling, lengthy exercise. One strategy is to ask yourself what you have seen and heard when you were a child about the given topic. For instance, if you may consciously think that a loving relationship would be wonderful, but as a child you have seen your parents fight constantly, subconsciously you may be associating relationships with a lot of pain. And frankly, chances are some of the beliefs you won’t figure out anyway, because they are so deep that your conscious mind is not capable of going down that far.

Figuring out the beliefs that are blocking your intention can be a useful exercise, but that leads to a thought that ‘if I get rid of these beliefs, everything will be fine’. That is a little misleading, because individual beliefs are not in your psyche on their own. They are all interconnected and intertwined with each other creating a web of beliefs, and the entire web needs to be changed in order to accommodate the manifestation of your intention. How do you do that? Kenn said that one needs to surrender their entire belief system to the Universe and let the entire web come back with the necessary adjustments. Personally I struggle with the ‘how’ to do that, although I do have an idea.

It is to simply let go of the image of how things are supposed to happen. When we set a goal or an intention, we create a corresponding image of how it needs to unfold. And when it does not unfold as we expect, or shows up in a different form, we get discouraged. But, the ‘hows are the domain of the Universe’ (I am taking this straight out of The Secret). Our job is to plant the idea and let the Universe show us how to proceed. Let me give you an example. You are in need of some extra cash. Your mother calls you and says, ‘I know that money is tight right now, so why don’t I pay your rent?’, to which you respond with ‘No, thanks!’ because you are expecting the money to come through overtime at work. But isn’t it rather obvious that the Universe responded to your request via your mother? And you just said ‘No, thanks!’ to It.

In other words, set your intention and let the game play out. Your thoughts?

The Things That Stands In A Way

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

If you are anything like me, you have set intentions for your life (things you wanted to do or accomplish) and never achieved them. Kenn Gordon gave a phenomenal talk on this topic recently and I want to tell you about a few interesting points that he brought up. He said that the things that stand between you and your intentions are intention blocks, and there are two of them.

The first intention block are your beliefs – not all of your beliefs, but some of them. It is possible that it is just a single belief that is blocking your intention, but more often than not, there are several interconnected beliefs that stand in the way. For instance, you may have a belief that was created very early in your childhood that ‘money does not grow on trees’, and while that may be true in the literal sense, it is probably not the best belief to carry around in your mind if your intention is to create prosperity and financial abundance.

The second intention block is lack of true commitment. Most people, myself included in many cases, do not have enough personal will to stick to their guns and see something through till the end. We have an image in our minds of how something is supposed to work, and when our experience shows otherwise, we lose our belief in what we are doing. No wonder many people have large goals, but few ever accomplish them. If you study the profiles of people who have achieved something significant and made a difference, you’ll find that their paths were not that easy. It took a lot of courage, commitment, and perseverance to accomplish whatever it is that they accomplished.

I will talk more about these two intention blocks in the near two days, so stay tuned!

Until next time,

Real and Ideal

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

You can also think of this as West and East or Form and Spirituality. We are living in a world largely divided between the two aspects of reality. The division is quite real – we can see it in people’s lives and literally draw a line through the world that will divide it in two camps based on thought patterns and physical manifestations. It is only the very few, very aware individuals, who talk about the power coming from the unity of the two ideals. Even though I know that there are many more, I have heard only a handful of people talk about this in depth.

Think of ‘West’ as, well, the West. It is made up of the developed nations and is all about manifesting form and creating abundance and prosperity. The United States is THE country that comes to mind when I think of the ‘West’. There are no other countries who learned how to manufacture wealth as well as the United States does. And although people living in the ‘West’ have a lot of stuff, they are largely unfulfilled. Even though they have pretty much all the things that they desire, they feel empty inside and are ultimately not happy with their lives. You may be different – in fact you probably are different if you are reading this – but this is based on my own observations of the society that I live in.

On the other side we have the ‘East’. These are very ‘old’ and wise countries with thousands of years of active history and development. Their wisdom, I think, is what led them to see and feel the truth of our being. Many people in this part of the world meditate and are very spiritual, however they lack stuff. Sure, they may know the truth, but they are living rather difficult lives (in my opinion, anyway). This is currently changing, much the like the ‘West’ is becoming more spiritual, but a typical image of the ‘East’ is people sitting on top of a mountain in a lotus posture, wrapped in a sheet of fabric, and meditating for hours.

Kenn Gordon spoke on the integration of the two philosophies a little while back and I found the idea quite fascinating. It was not the first time that I heard it, though it was presented in a slightly different way. He said that the goal is to be integrated in both, ‘real’ and ‘ideal’ – have the the ’stuff’ and be ’spiritual’. This is what I have been working on over the last year or so, and I do not think that I am anywhere near the end of the road, since this very well may be a road with no end. But I will say that I feel a lot more at peace with myself now than when I started to walk down this road.

Treat For Consciousness, Not Form

Monday, October 26th, 2009

In the Science Of Mind class we will shortly be learning about a ’spiritual mind treatment’ which is also called ‘an affirmative prayer’. Based on my understanding, it is a guided thought process for a very specific purpose. I will learn more about it in the coming weeks, but so far it seems like a structured way to ‘talk’ to the Universe and align yourself with it so that it comes to your aid in the attainment of your goal, instead of you working against it.

During class last week, Kenn Gordon said that we should “treat for consciousness, not form” when going after a physical goal. Last week I wrote a post on how we become what we think about, but we attract what we are. Kenn was essentially saying that we should be working on ‘who we are’ instead of a goal that we are after.

It seems a little counter intuitive not to treat for the goal that you are after, but it makes sense nevertheless. Another way to think about it is that the building is the goal, while your consciousness is the foundation. You may want to build a bigger building on the existing foundation, but it will not be very sturdy and is likely to collapse at some point. To have a long lasting building, you will need to provide a solid foundation.

Expanding your mind, or consciousness, builds a strong foundation and ensures that the results that manifest as a result of this bigger consciousness will be lasting. To give you an example, there were times that I set a goal to to exercise, say, 4 times a week. At first I was pumped and excited about my workout program but a couple weeks down the line, the motivation faded and I stopped. That was an example of building a bigger building on the existing foundation. I had to change the way I thought about myself and exercise; I started seeing myself as a person who exercises 4 times a week. That expended consciousness provided a bigger foundation for my bigger results to be lasting.

Have you experienced something similar in your life?

Until next time,

V
