A Year Later

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

This day a year ago I wrote the first post on the blog. I have read somewhere that most blogs don’t make it through a single year, so for me it was a goal and a personal challenge to do what most don’t have the perseverance to do. It has been a very good experience, but now that I’ve accomplished what I have set out to do, I have decided to not continue with daily blog posts.

That said, I will continue to provide support for Affirmation Triggers. I still believe that it’s a valuable service, and since it is pretty much automated, it’s not a lot of effort to keep it going. No changes on this front.

It’s Not A Quick Fix

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

We are a quick-fix society. Stephen Covey talks a lot about that in his 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, and how that is a big roadblock to change. Unfortunately people do not like to hear that, and since it is a profitable business practice to tell people what they want to hear, most self-help books, courses, and seminars sell the quick-fix. The titles of books and their introductions constantly suggest, or even explicitly promote, a complete life overhaul virtually overnight. But it does not work like that, and the problem comes up when people start believing that changes in life are quick and easy. When people do not see the results the next day or two, they get discouraged and give up on the whole thing, labeling all of the self-development materials useless.

Changes that have a lasting, positive impact on your life are never quick and never easy – they take a lot of time and a lot of energy and dedication. Beliefs form a driving force in our lives, and they are the hardest thing to change. We form beliefs automatically and in many cases they do not serve us as well as they could. Unfortunately changing them is as not as easy as it was forming them in the first place. There are tools available, like affirmations and visualizations, that help the process along, but it is hardly a quick process.

So give yourself a reality check. Make sure you grasp the magnitude of the tasks before you. Do know that change is possible, but change is not an overnight thing.

A Tip On Phrasing Your Affirmations

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Affirmations are great and they are the reason this website exists. The way they are phrased is very important, so let’s review some of the basics of affirmations.

Affirmations are supposed to be affirmative, positive statements, should have ‘the speaker’ included in them, and need to be stated in the present time. To expand a little bit on the basics, affirmations are supposed to talk of what you want instead of what you don’t want. So, if you are dealing with a health issue, the affirmation should mention something about “being in a healthy state and feeling great”, instead of “not feeling sick and tired anymore”. You sense the difference?

Whenever writing or saying an affirmation, make sure to feel included. I wrote a post a little while back where I shared a comical story of what could happen when you do not feel like part of whatever it is that you are affirming.

Finally, affirmations should be stated in the present tense. If you say “I will be healthy” you are sending your energy to the future. However, saying “I’m healthy” when you are not can feel awkward. So there is a little trick that I read somewhere for phrasing affirmations. Instead of saying “I am” start your affirmation with “I’m in the process of” – that puts the statement in the present and at the same time keeps it more true, since the end result can be ‘in development’. I personally really like that trick. Have fun with your affirmations!

New Feature On Affirmation Triggers

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

A new feature has been added to Affirmation Triggers home page, and it is the ability to send an affirmation to another person’s phone as a text message. All you need to know is the phone number of the person you want to send the affirmation to, and their service provider. If you don’t know the service provider, you can always send the same affirmation a couple of times and change the service provider from the drop-down-list – the right one will go through. Unless there are some network delays, a few seconds after you click ‘Send’, they will receive a text message from ‘The Universe’ on your behalf that will contain the affirmation.

Getting your own affirmations is great, but getting a good affirmation unexpectedly from someone else is surprising and very powerful. It is a fantastic way to offer some words of kindness or encouragement and to let the other person know that you are thinking of them. I hope you will enjoy this new additional way of using the website. This still needs to get polished, so if you have some tips or suggestions, please send them along. I’ll see what can be implemented.

Pursuing Your Passion

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Are you doing what you really want? Most people’s answer is ‘No!’ and is followed by a whole bunch of reasons (read: excuses) for why that is the case.

Bob Proctor said in one of his seminars that there are things that people know how to do, things that people think they can do, and things that people want to do. The vast majority of the population shifts between doing the things they know how to do and things they think they can do. People do what they know how to do, but it is not fulfilling and is not giving them the results they are after. So they get motivated and shoot for what they think they can do. But that is a somewhat challenging and is a bit of a stretch, and since it is not what they want to do, there is no passion there and no energy to break through the barriers, so they go back to what they know how to do. Then the cycle repeats again.

If you go for what you want to do, you will have the passion at your back and the energy to face the challenges and the roadblocks that come up. It’s like that saying about how to break through the fear of failure – you need a goal that is worth failing for. What a profound statement! One of the things that can help you with doing what you want to do are affirmations. If you do not know what it even is that you want to do, you can write a few affirmations around that; if you already know what you want to do but are afraid to take action, you can structure your affirmations around that. In the month that I have started to talk to everyone about Affirmation Triggers, I have had two people share their carrier related stories with me of getting the job in the field that they really wanted to work in that they attributed to using Affirmation Triggers.

Are you up to the challenge of doing what you want?

Tips On Using The Affirmation Triggers

Monday, November 9th, 2009

I have been sending affirmations to myself for a little while now every 10 minutes during the day, every day. A good friend of mine has been sending them to himself every 30 minutes. He, jokingly, said a few times that he does not know how I can keep up with my affirmations settings.

I talked about before, how I think it is very important to feel like your affirmation is true for it to manifest. One thing that I noticed is that I am getting used to my affirmations. I have read them so many times that I memorized them, so I begin to ‘tune-out’ when I read them – in other words, it read them automatically instead of with my full attention on them.

One of the things that I try to do to keep it fresh and interesting is to change my affirmations once in a while. I don’t mean that I change them completely – I just change the wording so that the overall meaning is the same, but the way that they are presented is different. I noticed that my brain is more receptive to the new affirmations for a while.

Another thing that I do is force myself to pause, take a deep breath, read the affirmation, close my eyes, and spend a few seconds putting myself mentally in the world where this affirmation is true. This exercises, I find, is very effective at breaking the routine of reading the same affirmations over and over.

To help you keep your mind focused on the affirmations, consider making them longer. I tend to make mine pretty short and to the point, which makes them easy to remember. My friend, on the other hand, has created his affirmations with a considerable amount of detail. They are longer and are more difficult to memorize, so it forces you to read them instead of glancing at them.

Do you have any tips that you would like to share?

Worlds Shortest ‘Prayer’

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

“I am”

Of course, this is not a ‘prayer’ in the religious sense of the word, but rather in the neo-spiritual sense.

What do people pray for? They pray for a particular result. Yesterday I talked about the process of manifestation and how ‘you become what you think about, and you attract what you are’. ‘I am’ is part of a statement that results in some description of you, meaning that when you become that, you’ll attract the corresponding results.

As a side note, they are a great way to start an affirmation, or an intention for yourself or for your life. I encourage you to come up with a couple of new, inspiring affirmations for yourself and then use the Affirmation Triggers to remind yourself of what is in the process of becoming.

So do you see how ‘I am’ is the worlds shortest ‘prayer’? Think about the power of those two words…

Nothing Manifests Without Intention

Monday, October 19th, 2009

I had an interesting conversation with a good friend of mine who brought up a point that without intention nothing would manifest in this world. It is a very simple, yet a very profound statement at the same time.

How do you get any result in life? Whether it is to go to school, grab a snack, or go see a show, it all starts with a quick thought “hey, I should do that” and an intention to actually do it. People invented a car because they had an intention to have a better way of transportation than horses and they invented the airplane because of an intention to fly.

That is why achieving something in your life also starts with an intention. Many times the intentions are installed by someone else, like your parents, and many of the your current results in life are there because of those ’subconscious’ intentions. To achieve something different, however, you need to set some conscious intentions for your life (you can call it goals or affirmations). After you set your intention, you’ll need to trigger your brain to think actually think about it on the regular basis. Intention cards are a great method – this is where you write down your goal, intention, or affirmation on a card and read it as often as possible. Affirmation Triggers is a good alternative – it’s a free service that will send your own affirmations to your phone at regular intervals. Sorry for the plug :)

So, everything starts with an intention, or in other words, a thought, so what do you think about?

How To Increase Your Vibratory Rate

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I believe that the entire concept of attracting the things that you desire and living the life you want is based on the ability to increase your vibratory rate. When you are able to generate higher frequency vibrations, you’ll have the wind at your back when it comes to working with the universe – you will generate ideas, find energy to work on those ideas, and discover that you ‘magically’ meet the people you need to turn your idea into something more concrete. The opposite is also true; if you remain at the same vibratory rate as you have always maintained, you will keep manifesting the results you are used to.

So how do we increase our vibratory rate? The broad guide to use, is to do the things that make you feel good, excluding the things that leave you in pain at the end, like drugs, where you feel great for a little while only to find yourself in misery after the high has worn off.

I am certain that there are many more strategies for increasing your vibratory rate, but here are some of my favourites:

  • eat wholesome foods that give me long lasting energy with one of my favourites being a nice, green salad with salmon or chicken.
  • move, or in other words, get some exercise, even if it is just going for a walk
  • listen to audio books and read the actual books by the authors that inspire and motivate you – it’s hard to feel down when Tony Robbins is talking about his personal story
  • read articles and watch documentaries and movies about different entrepreneurs, their achievements, and how they overcame different obstacles and challenges (or something else that is inspiring to you)
  • be grateful for what you have in your life right now and for what is coming – I like to say that my next car is ‘clearing customs’, as it has been shipped from overseas and has not been released for delivery yet
  • visualize and generate the feelings of living the life you want to live – living in that dream house, being with that ideal person, driving that babe of the car
  • use affirmations and Affirmation Triggers (excuse the plug, but this did make a difference in my life)
  • and last but not least, get some sun!

I hope that you can apply some of these strategies in your life, but I wonder, what strategies do you use?

Benefits Of Creating Your Own Affirmations

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

There are many websites out there that offer you long lists of affirmations, whether in written form or in an audio format. Some websites will sell you CDs with affirmations recorded on them, while others offer you an email service where a random affirmation will be emailed to you daily. In many ways, and this is just my humble opinion, these services offer a good value, but they all miss a big aspect of affirmations.

Affirmations are supposed to be personalized, positive statements stated in the present tense. The more personalized the affirmation are, the more effective they become. To me, as I said in one of my earlier posts, affirmations are synonymous with intentions as well as with goals. James Arthur Ray talks about how he likes to set intentions instead of setting goals, since the term ‘goals’ is overused and we, as a society, are somewhat accustomed to hearing it. Then, after thinking about it, I decided that affirmations and intentions are really the same thing. And you are supposed to use them in the same way too – you are supposed to keep your mind focused on them as much as possible by doing whatever your need to do (saying them out loud, writing them down on a card and reading the card regularly, etc). In other words, affirmations, intentions, and goals are all positive statements about something that you want to accomplish in your life or statements about the way you want to be and act.

So here’s my problem with the pre-made affirmations. They may sound personalized, but they are not personalized since you did not come up with them. Now don’t get me wrong, I think that it is possible to take an affirmation that someone made, make it feel personal, and internalize it. That being said, I think that it’s a lot easier to internalize an affirmation that you made yourself as opposed to an affirmation made by someone else.

You can use Affirmation Triggers to come up with a list of your own affirmations and then use this FREE service to send your own affirmations to your phone at regular time intervals to make it easier to keep them fresh in your mind. I would love to know what you think of the service.

Until next time,
