Everything Happens For A Reason

Friday, April 16th, 2010

This is another very common comment from people – that things happened just the way they were supposed to for some reason. While it is a comforting statement, I am personally torn as to how valid it is for one main reason – human beings will always find a way to justify any choice they have made and all the things that resulted from it. Regret and emotions like it are usually not long-lasting for most of us.

It is easy to look back and see the intricate connections between everything that has happened, and how, if you would have left your house 30 second earlier, you may have never had a chance to stop at that red light, and notice an ad in the window of the store to your left, and do something that led to something completely different. But does it really work like that? Because from what I understand about human nature, if we took a completely different path, we would look back and still see all the unlikely connections between the different steps and essentially say the same thing. What if, for example, you can take 10 different ways to the same outcome, much like you can take 10 different ways from work to your house? Or what if different ways take you to different outcomes and your head just shows you how the destination you are at is the best one?

If you are brave enough to share what you think, I’d love to hear it!

Inspiring Creativity

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

“I am not creative!”

You may have heard that phrase uttered by different people; I have no problem admitting that I have said that many times in the past, and maybe you have too.

We are taught that creativity comes from the right side of the brain and that logic comes from the left, and that people are somehow strong in one and not in the other. I was always good at the sciences, so I figured that I was not supposed to be good creatively, and thus I never pursued anything in that field. On top of that, add loving parents, who kept saying that I was tone deaf every time I expressed any interest in music. The picture paints itself.

The interesting thing is, exploring childhood memories, I remember really enjoying drawing, painting, sculpting with play-do, and building things out of LEGO. Somehow, over time, I did not focus any energy on developing those interests, and so, as expected, they dissipated into thin air. I think there are quite a lot of people who had a similar experiences, and what does not help is our school system that rewards sciences a lot more than arts.

These days I find that I have periods of creativity, so the fire is not out yet. I am trying to pay attention to what is going on when I get into the creative mode so that I can develop it some more. It is something that I recommend you also pay attention to if you find yourself in a similar situation.

Our Uniqueness – Our Strength

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

I had a fascinating discussion with a friend of mine that strongly relates to the idea presented yesterday about how it’s much better to create something instead of competing with others.

Here is my friend’s logic: every person in this world is unique – we have unique DNA, we look differently, and we develop differently as well. Even identical twins do not turn out to be the same person, since they develop slightly differently.

Now since everyone is unique, then everyone must have something that they are better at than anyone else in the world. And if they are better than everyone else in the world, then the competition becomes largely irrelevant.

So, if you could find what that ‘competitive advantage’ was and could monetize it, what affect would it have on your life?

My friend developed a program that helps you find that edge. I’m not going to do an explicit plug here, but if you are interested, email me and I’ll connect you to him.

“Amateurs Compete – Professionals Create”

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

This is a concept that I heard on a Bob Proctor tape many times in the past, but something about it really grabbed my attention recently, and resonated with me on a whole new level.

There is an awful lot of talk about competition in the business circles – how that competitor is advertising, what this competitor is doing, and how that other competitor is innovating. The beauty of it all is that if you truly create something, competition will be largely irrelevant. Out of all the companies out there, Apple is probably the one that demonstrates this concept best. Last I heard, Apple had a 95%+ market share in the mp3 player market – a point where an iPod is synonymous with an mp3 player. Do you think they care much about the competition? Not really. Apple instead focuses on innovation and development of better products, which forces competition to essentially follow. All the competitors can bend over backwards, but no company can be better at being Apple than Apple! Think about that statement long and hard!

This is an extreme example, but it demonstrates the point rather well, don’t you think? If there is money to be made, there will be competition. The question is, how much will that affect your business? If you take a ‘create’ position like Apple, your competition will worry a lot more about you, but if you take a ‘compete’ position like Microsoft, then it will be the other way around.

Join me in knowing…

That this is a precise and ordered Universe with many laws governing Its processes. One of the most fundamental processes in the Universe is the flow of Energy. Science teaches us that everything is Energy and that the amount of Energy in the Universe is constant. So Energy can only flow into form, through form, and out of form and this flow also has a Law that governs how it unfolds. My understanding is that how I feel guides how this flow of Energy is expressed in my life. Knowing that, I choose to feel and experience emotions that improve my life – emotions such as love, joy, and happiness. I also choose to feel healthy and abundant in my options, opportunities, and results. Knowing that I am made of the same stuff as everything and everyone else, I know that my potential is unlimited and I live from that premise. I know that as I set my intention for growth, I will attract all the necessary ideas, people, and circumstances into my life to help me with the intention. I am thankful for my life and for the opportunity to grow and create. I am thankful for the wonderful people around me and for the ability to share. I release my intention to the perfect action of the Universal Law and I let go. And so it is.

Container Of Certainty

Friday, April 9th, 2010

This relates a lot to the yesterday’s post on self-image. I’ve heard this question asked, “what is in your container of certainty?” I thought that ‘the container of certainty’ was a really cool way of expressing the idea.

The concept is pretty simple and straight forward – you will always get whatever is in your container of certainty – no more, no less. You will not get what you want nor what you wish for, but rather what you truly expect. Every time I write something related to this concept, I am in awe from the power that comes once you understand and internalize that idea. Personally I’m starting to get there after all these years, but I’m a slow learner.

So what is in your ‘container of certainty’? What kind of life are you expecting? What kind of relationships are you expecting to have? What kind of work do you expect to be doing? What is your expectation when it comes to health and fitness? Just some food for thought…

The Thermostat

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

You have probably heard the comparison between the psycho-cybernetic mechanism in our minds and the thermostat. My understanding that the term has been coined by Dr. Maxwell Maltz in his book called Psycho-Cybernetics (’psycho’ being the mind; ‘cybernetics’ being the study of control and communication). It is a fascinating read and if you have not read it, I highly recommend it. I will shine some light on a lot of questions that you may have.

The book talks about the idea of a ’self-image’ and how it guides everything in your life. This is where the thermostat analogy is used – when the temperature falls below the set value, the heaters turn on until the temperature returns to ‘normal’; when the temperature rises above, the air conditioning turns on and again brings it back to ‘normal’. Our psycho-cybernetic mechanism is a blessing and a curse at the same time and applies to all areas of life – fitness, health, relationships, finances, etc.

It is a blessing because there is no way that you will allow yourself to remain below the ’set value’ for an extended period of time. The reverse is also true – you will not remain above the ’set value’ for an extended period of time as well. Say your target weight is 150 lb. If you step on the scale and see yourself at 160 lb, you’ll likely go on a diet, get a gym membership, and get a running buddy, until you go back to 150 lb. The only way you’ll stay at 160 is if you make it OK and change your self image to correspond to that.

There are huge implications when you understand this, and while ‘truth will set you free’, be prepared for A LOT of work once you start messing with the thermostat.

“I Have No Time!”

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Not having enough time is a common complaint among the people. There are only 24 hours in a day with certain totally necessary activities, like sleep, and a lot more things competing for our time and attention. The really neat thing about it is that everyone truly is on the same playing field. People may be born in different parts of the world or into different families and circumstances, and use that as an excuse for doing or not doing something, but everyone has 24 hours in a day.

Sure you may have a lot of things to do, but you will always find time to do the things that are important to you. If you are not doing them, they are not as important as the things that you are already doing. So for example, if someone watches 2 hours of Survivor (if that show is even on these days), but has no time to go exercise, then this person obviously puts more values on watching Survivor than on being active, more fit, and healthy.

This applies to all the activities that you are doing and are not doing due to lack of time. When something is important enough, you will always find a way to make it happen. That’s why I don’t believe what people say – I believe what they do!

No Good Or Bad Ideas

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

I had a lengthy discussion with friend of mine the other week after he made a statement that “there are no bad ideas – only good ones”. His argument was that it is our beliefs, judgments, and conditioning that makes us see an idea as ‘bad’. Still, though, nothing about that statement felt right. If our beliefs, judgments, and conditioning makes an idea ‘bad’, then surely those same things would go into making an idea ‘good’. And I don’t think I’ll get too many people to disagree when I say that experience shows that there are a lot of ‘bad’ ideas – drinking too much the night before, getting into a fight, being involved in a certain relationship, jumping out of an airplane without a parachute…

And then it hit me…

Jumping out of an airplane without a parachute is a great idea if you want to kill yourself; not so great if you want to live to see another day. At that point, we actually came a conclusion rather quickly. Ideas are not good or bad – they just are. Ideas are either effective or ineffective at getting you to a certain result. Now that statement resonates with me.

Your thoughts?

Join me in knowing…

That everything is Energy, and since Energy cannot be created or destroyed, everything that I seek is already here – though in a different form than I may expect. Since Energy can only flow into form, through form, and out of form, I recognize that there is a Law that governs that flow – a Law that is perfect, precise, and impersonal. Being part of the Energetic Universe, and being one with it, I know that I am subject to this Law as is every other person. So in this perfect moment I create a mental idea – a seed if you will – of a healthy, happy, fulfilling, and abundant life, and I plant this mental seed in the fertile soil of the Law. I am grateful for the life that I call mine and for the life that I am creating. I release my mental idea to the perfect and precise action of the Universe, knowing that it is already so, and so it is!
