Analyzing And Re-Programming The Subconscious Mind

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Earlier I talked about the majority of our thoughts being subconscious. And although we can attract more experiences into our lives through the power of trained conscious thought, at the end of the day, conscious thoughts are vastly outnumbered by the subconscious thoughts. This is precisely why I think that analyzing our subconscious programming and re-working it is so vital.

This, of itself, is a monstrous topic that has whole books written about it, so I will not be able to go into a lot of detail in this post. I will direct your attention to one area of your life, and that is your childhood, which is the time where most subconscious programming takes place as your mind is wide open. To get a better understanding of what kind of subconscious programming you have about a given subject, like money or relationships, try to remember the things you have heard, seen, and experienced in relation to that very topic when you were a child.

You may think that you have a positive outlook on intimate relationships, but if you saw your parents fight all the time and saw people getting divorced, that is what you have stored in your subconscious, and that is what you are very likely to bring into your own experience as well. You may think that your attitude towards money is supportive of your goals, but if you have heard as a child things like ‘money is a root of all evil’, ‘we can’t afford that’, and ‘rich people are crooks’, then you will have very hard time achieving financial abundance in your life.

So think about your childhood and that should shed some light on your subconscious mind.

Trained Thought

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Yesterday I talked about how the vast majority of our thoughts, over 95% of them to be more precise, go through our minds completely unnoticed and uncontrolled. But I also mentioned that this does not mean that we only have 5% control over our lives. The good thing is that a trained thought has much more energy behind it, and thus more power, than an untrained thought.

If you have ever played ‘tug o’ war’, then you’ll know that you get much more power when everyone pulls together. Trained thoughts have a similar effect. If you are not paying any attention to your conscious mind, then your consciousness is responsible for about 5% of your experiences. Under this arrangement, effectively all the thoughts, conscious and subconscious, are pulling at the rope at random.

Exercising trained thought is like having everyone pull on the rope at the same time from the conscious side, while having the subconscious thoughts pulling on the rope without any organization. There will still be a lot of experiences created by your subconscious mind, but suddenly you will find that you have more and more influence on your life as you put some power behind your conscious thoughts.

95% / 5%

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

We have about 70,000 thoughts every single day. Over 95% of those thoughts are subconscious, meaning that you are not even aware of them. The subconscious mind is truly the driving force behind your experiences, which is why addressing the deep-rooted beliefs is such a powerful exercise. I mean, think about it, if every thought has a frequency associated with it, and every frequency attracts to it things, events, and circumstances of the same vibrational frequency, then 95% of what you are attracting, you are not even aware of.

I believe that the subconscious thoughts are responsible for majority of our lives and for all those things that make you say, “I never thought about that, so why is it showing up?”. The subconscious thoughts attract into our experience things that seem to be totally random and not connected to our conscious thoughts. But remember, it is not just out conscious mind that creates our experiences, it is our entire consciousness. And that is one of the most powerful distinctions that I have ever made for myself.

But since only 5% of our thoughts are conscious, does that mean that we can never truly be in control of our lives? If I had only 5% share in a company, it would be very difficult to take the company in the direction that I want it to go. Thankfully the fact that we are only aware of 5% of our thoughts, does not mean that we can only have 5% control. But more on that later!

Don’t Worry About The Balance

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

There is a lot of talk about being balanced and eating a balanced diet and living a balanced life. While that sounds pretty good, after some thought, striving for balance no longer seems like a worthy goal for me. Instead, I go for giving my time and attention to the things that require it the most while keeping my goals in mind. Balance of itself is not a goal for me.

People tend to think that balance is good, that somehow living a balanced life means living a happy life; I don’t think the two are very closely related. James Arthur Ray talks about balance and he brings up a really cool analogy of a scale in balance. When a scale is balanced, there is absolutely nothing happening. There is no movement, no vibrancy, no vitality. Everything is still. On the other hand, if you think about a rocking jazz band, it is anything but balanced. Different instruments dominate different parts of the musical piece and there is a lot of energy, movement, and harmony. Going for harmony seems like a more worthy ideal!

Harmony is a lot more interesting. To me living a harmonious life means living a happy life. There are times when work takes centre stage, while at other times, it will be family or friends or an important relationship. And sometimes it is all about fun! And there is no need to be balanced. The only thing that I make sure I do is keep my mind focused on my goals and keep working towards them.

What are your thoughts on balance and harmony?

Spiritual Mind Treatment (2010.02.08)

Join me in knowing that…

There is really only one thing happening, and it is the eternal flow of Energy. Energy is the fundamental ’substance’ aback of all things. Mountains, lakes, trees, animals, air, humans, and everything else is made up, at the very basic level, of Energy. Energy cannot be created and it cannot be destroyed – it was always and forever will be – and it can only shift and change form in accord with the Laws of the Universe. I know that I am no exception and am too made of the same Energy as everyone and everything else in this Universe. I also know, accept, and expect that my thoughts, feelings, and beliefs sculpt the experience of my life in accord with the Universal Law of Attraction. I recognize that my thoughts and my feelings have a frequency associated with them and that that frequency is attractive in its nature and that it attracts to it things of the same frequency. I know that once I release a certain frequency, it is turned over to the Law and always comes back in kind. The action of the Law is impersonal and it is perfect. The action of the Law cannot be stopped, it cannot be suppressed, depressed, or coerced – it can only be directed by the frequencies I constantly release. I know that because of my recognition of the Truth, my consciousness has no option but to grow and to expand in order to make space for creation and execution of a bigger idea for my life – that of abundance, love, happiness, joy, health, and wellness. I speak my words, implant them into Truth, plant them in Mind, which is my mind and All Mind, and I expect and accept the immediate and perfect action of the Law. I am deeply grateful for my recognition, appreciation, and understanding of this Law and for the magnificent life that I have created. I turn my thoughts over to the care of the Universal Mind and know that it is already done in the Absolute. And so it is!

What Are You Trying To Prove?

Friday, February 5th, 2010

This post is a follow-up, in a way, to yesterday’s post. It is a little comical and light so that you can transition smoothly into your weekend. I want to share with you a conversation that I had with my dad not too long ago.

I told him about the movie, ‘The Secret’, and said that he should watch it. He did, and when I asked him for some thoughts and feedback he said, ‘It was interesting, but I hope that you don’t live your life from that’. That was a nice starting point for a good debate about the different experiences in life.

After exchanging different thoughts he said, ‘OK, I want to win the lottery. I can easily see it. How many times do I have to play and not win to prove to you that this doesn’t work?’ Ummm….

I’m not going to go into the fallacies contained in that statement today, but you should be able to pick up on a couple of things right away so I will leave that as a quick exercise for you.

What Does Testing Have To Do With It?

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Yesterday I mentioned the idea of testing spirituality in a traditional scientific laboratory environment. The interesting realization that I came to is that when you test something spiritual, you are setting yourself up for failure. The reason? Your expectation.

Quite often when a person learns about a spiritual law, like the Law of Attraction, they want to believe it but have hard time doing so. In order to decide whether to believe it or not, they decide to test it for themselves. Now even though this person may be testing to prove that it works, he or she is really testing it because they do not believe that it works. Do you notice the difference?

I mentioned before that it’s thoughts and, more importantly, feelings that are attractive in their nature and that for me to attract something that I desire, I need to think and feel as if it is true. So if I knew that the Law of Attraction worked, I would not be compelled to test it. The very act of testing sends out a vibration of doubt. Now this doesn’t mean that the Law of Attraction won’t work – it will always work because it is the Law – but it will appear to not work by not bringing what you want into your experience.

Say you want to test the Law of Attraction by attracting a cup of coffee, and when you really break it down, essentially you are not sure whether or not you’ll be able to attract that cup of coffee. Not being sure is what will greatly increase the likelihood of you not attracting the cup of coffee into your life. The Law still works because it was acting on your doubt, but it seems that it doesn’t work for you. The biggest factor is how strong is the feeling of doubt. The stronger the feeling of doubt, the harder it will be to have the Law work to your advantage.

Your thoughts?

What If We Are Wrong?

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

In my experience of sharing my spiritual beliefs and my approach to life with others, it’s just a matter of time before someone asks ‘What if you are wrong?’, implying that my beliefs do not shape my reality, and that Law of Attraction is more of a coincidence than a Law. My response to that is that it’s still worth doing. Tony Robbins said at one point that we should not worry as much about whether the belief is true, but rather whether it is useful. Now that sounds a little odd – ignore the facts as long as it is useful – but with spirituality, where the biggest affect is on your quality of life, useful works. Especially because it’s hard to prove anything spiritual in a traditional scientific lab environment.

I personally really enjoy talking with pure scientific minds about this stuff, because this often goes against what they know. And the challenges that I get from them are often very similar – they mention not being able to prove this in a double-blind study, or they refer to some cognitive bias as being the reason for my belief. But the beautiful thing is that regardless of what they want to believe, I still constantly attract the right people, the right opportunities, and the best parking spots into my experience.

What is exciting is that there is more and more evidence to support what I believe about how things work. Science is just starting to catch on. And as liberal as the scientific community paints themselves to be, according to the very same pure scientific minds, scientists cannot deviate too much in terms of what they study and publish without risking their carriers. I actually had one of my friends admit to me that, in the current environment, if someone was trying to do a lot more research in the ‘fluffy spiritual stuff’, they would have very hard time getting funding, even more trouble getting published, and would pretty much be burying their career. No wonder there are not a lot of paper on this subject. However that is slowly changing and it will be comical when I’ll get to say ‘Told you so!’ with a big grin on my face.

Which Reality Is Real?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Well, the physical one – the one you can see, taste, touch, and experience! Right? Not exactly. In one of the Science of Mind classes, one of the facilitators, Dr. Kenn Gordon, pointed out the the physical world – the world where we know lack, limitation, and boundaries – is an illusion, while what people typically see as the ‘dream world’ – the place where everything is possible – is the Truth.

This can be a difficult idea to wrap your head around, but if you really think about it, you’ll realize that it’s actually the case. Now, I am not really talking about a world where you can fly, walk on water, and eat fire as being the real thing. We do, after all, live in a world with numerous laws which are all at work simultaneously. What I am talking about is how our experience of reality is fundamentally false because this experience is shaped by our beliefs.

Think of your beliefs as the electrical wiring in your house. While it is entirely possible to supply your house with much higher voltages and pump through much more current through the wires, if you were to do that, you would blow out your fuses, and failing that, would fry the entire electrical system and probably burn down your house. The electrical system that the house was built with physically limits the potential electrical power that you can put through it from the start. For you to pump more power through the system, you would need to re-wire the entire house (and find the appropriate power source). But if you always lived in that house and never heard about larger voltages and more powerful electrical currents, you’d think that 110V is all that is possible. But you know better than that.

Determining what is possible based on your current beliefs and the experience of life to date is, in my opinion, equivalent to saying that the wiring in your house is the end-all and the be-all of electrical potential. What I want to get across is that there is always a potential for more. You just need to re-wire your head with some beliefs that can candle the added juice of Life!

Spiritual Mind Treatment (2010.02.01)

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Happy Monday, and as always, take these words as your own if you wish.

I know that in this moment there is only one thing happening and it is the living individualization of Energy as me. I know that this Energy is the fundamental building block of all creation and that Energy is equally here, equally there, and equally everywhere else. There is no place where Energy is not – it permeates, penetrates, and fills the inter-spaces of the Universe – and it cannot be created or destroyed. It only changes form in accord with the Law which is guided by the thoughts of the Universal Mind, which is my mind and all mind, like a block of silly-putty molded by hands from formless into form. I recognize and joyfully accept this Truth, and as I do that, I am open and receptive to inspiration, growth of my consciousness, growth and creative expression of my life, my love, my work, my purpose, my service, my fulfillment, my abundance, my health, my prosperity, and my overall experience. I know that I speak the Truth and that this Truth is attractive and will bring into my experience all the required people and opportunities that grow and expand my consciousness and my experience while tearing down and breaking all obstacles that may stand in the way. With unconditional gratitude I plant my words into Truth, turn it over to the Universe, and joyfully expect and accept the Energetic manifestations in my life. I recognize the Truth as my reality, and so it is!

Until next time,
