Know That You Know

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Yesterday I talked about hope and expectation and about how if we really want to achieve the things we want, we need to transcend the feeling of hope and move to a place of expectation. How do we do that? I think everyone’s journey will be somewhat different, but what worked for me was to look back on my short life and find a lot of examples of true belief and expectation coming to fruition. Another thing that helped was looking at some things that I did not yet achieve and realizing that the expectation was really not there – that it was a feeling of hope that I was nurturing in reality.

That recognition helped me a great deal with internalizing the understanding of this Universal Principle. This week in my Science of Mind class we talked about ‘faith’ and the different aspects of ‘faith’. We did not speak of ‘faith’ as a religious term, but rather as a term for ‘expectation’. While I can talk about this very concept for a long time, it can be summarized very quickly. I like to think of ‘faith’ is a knowing that when my thoughts are in harmony with my feelings, the results automatically come to fruition; every time, no exceptions. Does that make sense?

So take a look at your life, results, hopes, and expectations. I’d love to know what you discover through that exploration.

Hope And Expectation

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

It dawned on me recently that pretty much everyone hopes that they will attain certain results, but very few people actually expect to do it. And in my opinion, while hope is much better than the state of, say, depression or despair, it is not enough to get what you truly want in life. That is where you need to come to a place of expectation.

Tony Robbins spoke about an interesting experiment of hope vs expectation. People were asked to think of something that they really want to have or experience. When they were asked to hope that it will happen, they described their inner feeling as being passive, seeing a possibility of both, the success and failure, and described the mental images as primarily black and white. When the same people were asked to expect, on the other hand, they described seeing themselves as more proactive, saw a successful outcome, and described their mental imagery is being primarily in colour. Try this for yourself, and tell me about the differences you experience between hope and expectation.

If you think about it, since we live in a creative Universe that responds to thought and feeling, a feeling of hope is rather wishy-washy. You hope when you are not certain, but when you are certain, you expect! You don’t just hope, you expect to step onto a solid floor when you get up in the morning. You need to get to the same place of expectation when it comes to everything else that you want to achieve and experience in life, but more on that later.

When Not To Be Positive

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Yes, that is the title of today’s post, in the light of yesterdays post on negative people spreading their negative energies like brain viruses. My only challenge with always being positive and living life ‘as if’ the things you want to be true are in fact true, is that there are times when you have to deal with reality. And its those times that I think you can get out of the ‘positive’ and ‘as if’ mode, and deal with reality.

We have all been in the situations when we try our best to feel abundant, yet face a financial challenge, try to feel like we are in a loving relationship, yet are not in reality, or find ourselves in another similar situation. You know that in those moments it can be very difficult, if entirely impossible, to feel and act as if the reality was different.

That being said, while you are dealing with the reality, I find it very useful to try not to feel much at all. You don’t need to feel great in that situation, but at the same time there is absolutely no need to feel bad and sorry for yourself. Just deal with the situation and move on. I figure that the little bit of time that you deal with reality is easily overpowered by the otherwise constant feeling of ‘as if’ things are the way you want them to be. And as time passes and you make some changes, your reality will shift to reflect your thought pattern.

So if you thought I was giving you a permission to feel bad for yourself – sorry! :) You can be neutral for a bit, but make sure to go back to feeling good when you are done!

Avoiding Brain Viruses

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

There was a time, not too long ago, when I felt like cutting myself off from the vast majority of people who I interacted with. This is because most of the people who I knew were pretty negative in their outlook on life. Some claimed that they just were realistic, others weren’t even trying to hide their pessimism, and it seemed like that negative energy was spreading like a virus – a brain virus.

It is totally true, in my experience, that you become more like the people you hang around for extended periods of time. I think that if several people were locked in one room forever, they would reach some sort of personality equilibrium at some point. When you have negative people around you, they infect you with their brain viruses. That was the exact case with me. I looked at the people who I spent a lot of time with and saw that they were not going in the direction that I wanted to go. So I started phasing them out, slowly but surely, and replacing them with positive people. And positive people are like the immune system guarding against brain viruses.

And sure enough, after a little while, my outlook on life changed and I became a ‘positive’ person and now all of my friends are indeed very positive, energetic, vivacious, happy people. Today I refuse to spend time with negative people. It is tough when negative people are your family, but like I heard someone say once, ‘love your family; choose your friends’. You don’t have to abandon your family if they are negative, but you do not need to spend high quality and high quantity time with them just because they are your family.

So tell me, if you don’t mind, if you agree with the above, and whether you find it easy or difficult to be around people who are in an energetic state opposite to the one you are in?

Spiritual Mind Treatment (2010.01.11)

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Happy Monday, everyone! Here is a Treatment to get your week going in the right direction. Take these words as your own if you choose:

I recognize the existence of a Power in the Universe – it is a Source of all Knowledge, of all Inspiration, of all Creativity, of all Intelligence. I know that this Power has only one purpose which is to grow, to expand, to create. This magnificent Power is guided by one Law – a Law that cannot reason, but can only execute. This perfect Law is always working and reflecting the thoughts, feelings, and ideas into physical experience. And while I know that one cannot see the Law, one can definitely see Its results, and I recognize these results everywhere I dare to look. I recognize that since this Great Power is the Source of ALL Intelligence, then my intelligence, which is individualized in my body and mind, is part of ALL. Through this recognition I open the door to a place where everything is possible because if I can conceive it, I can achieve it with the Power of the entire infinite Universe on my side! So in this perfect moment, by recognizing my access to the Source of all Inspiration, I allow this Divine Energy to flow through me in support of my endeavours and claim the required power to follow through on my ideas. I am deeply thankful for my understanding and recognition of this Universal Power and Its Operation, so I get out of the way and am wide open and receptive, and allow the Power, Inspiration, Intelligence, and Creativity to flow through me, for me. I know that it is already done in the Absolute, with ease and harmony. And as it is done in the Absolute, it is also done in my reality. And so it is!

How To Get Physical

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Yesterday I talked about the importance of physical exercise in a healthy, successful life. I do realize that unless exercise is a habit for you, it may be difficult to get off your ass – pardon my French! :) I want to give you a few tips on how to make physical exercise an easier thing to do.

First of all, stick to what you enjoy. If you like walking, for example, start with that. Walking by itself is an excellent exercise, but it also can turn to running one day when you are comfortable enough. I know that I have a tendency to push myself really hard whenever I exercise. If you are like me, then exercise will often feel uncomfortable while you do it. If you don’t push yourself as far, the process may be more comfortable, thus increasing your chances of actually doing it.

Second of all, see if you can get a workout buddy. However your workout buddy needs to be motivated to go workout. If both of you would rather not go, you’ll end up having cappuccinos with cinnamon rolls instead of going to the gym. Having someone else who you are accountable to, someone who expects you to be at the gym, will increase your chances of getting into a habit of physical exercise. Personally for me, this is what helped me stick to it back in the days to the point where the activity is part of me.

Lastly, a little strategy to help you actually get to your workout. Instead of seeing the workout as an entire 1-2 hour thing that you have to do, break it down and think of it in small steps. For instance, start with the “all I need to do is to pack my gym bag”. Easy enough, right? Your next step is to “get to the car”. Pretty simple as well. Then it can be “drive to the gym”. This step by step approach is a lot less intimidating when you are starting out and keeps you focused on the task that is 30 seconds away – not 2 hours away. And just so you know, the hardest part of a workout is getting to the gym or wherever it is that you would go, so once you are at the gym, it’s downhill from there!

Have a great workout!

Physical Exercise

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

I believe that physical exercise is a must if you are to live a healthy, vivacious, successful life. Heck, don’t take my word for it – try it out for yourself!

There are a lot of suggestions and ideas on what kind of exercise is best for what – this is not something that I even want to get into – try different things for yourself and stick to what works. Though if your idea of exercise is lifting a beer to drink it, maybe you ought to reconsider. In any case, just so you don’t come after me, ‘check with your doctor before beginning any exercise routine’. OK, now that we’ve covered that, let’s move on.

You don’t even need to exercise for that long – even 30 minutes every day is very beneficial. I remember hearing on CBC Radio that you can get a lot of cardiovascular benefits by exercising for only a few minutes, but at peak intensity. I did a quick search online, but was not able to locate that interview.

When you exercise, you get blood and oxygen flowing through your body which makes you feel much more energetic. Then you can be much more efficient at doing the things you were going to do, doing them in less time, thus seeing a return on your investment in the exercise.  You also feel better about yourself and your confidence grows, so that translates into improved performance in other areas of life.

Are you convinced?

The Critical 6

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Now that you figured out what works and what does not work, I want to share with you another strategy that I found useful. You did figure out what works and what doesn’t work, right? If not, go do that now!

Anyway, as the title says, this strategy is called ‘The Critical 6′. I came across it through James Arthur Ray; James Ray mentions where the strategy comes from, though at this time I can’t put my finger on it. In any case, the strategy is pretty simple (but not easy).

Write down the 6 most important things to do today and rank them in order of importance from 1 to 6. Go to work on #1 and don’t do anything else until you are done. When you are done with #1, move on to #2, and so on. If you are not done with all of the items on the list, the remaining ones roll over to the next day, so if you were only able to finish the first 2 tasks on the list, you roll over the remaining 4 to the next day. The suggestion is to come up with your own Critical 6 in the evening before you start the day, so that you know exactly what it is that you need to do.

So go ahead and do that now…come up with the 6 most important things to do today, and get to it!

Until next time,

Focus On What Works

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

So I would like to get the year rolling by making up my mind that I will do certain things differently. I would hallucinate that most of you feel this way around this time of year, setting all kinds of resolutions. The trouble is that we feel like this every year, do things differently for a few weeks, and then go back to our usual patterns. I see this every year at my gym where during the first 2-3 weeks of January, the gym is packed.

Last year I wrote a post on changing only one thing this time around – it will not feel as daunting of a task meaning that you may actually stick to it. Bob Proctor offers an interesting exercise by asking three questions:

1. What are you doing?
2. What works?
3. What does not work?

Now, stop doing the things that do not work and focus on the things that do. The 80/20 rule applies well here. There are just a handful of activities that you are doing that are bringing you most of your results. Just focus on those activities! Sounds like common sense, but common sense is not common practice. It is so easy to get sucked in to the 80 percent of activities that keep us occupied, yet are pretty much fruitless.

So, what works for you?

Spiritual Mind Treatment (2009.01.04)

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Happy New Year! I friend of mine suggested doing Spiritual Mind Treatments on Mondays instead of Fridays, so that we can know the Truth and get inspired at the beginning of the week, instead of the end. I thought it was an excellent idea, so here we go! We are starting the week and the year 2010 with a Treatment! Take these words as your own if you choose…

I know that there is One Power operating in the Universe – one Source of all Intelligence, of all Inspiration. I know that this Power has one purpose and it is to create, to expand, and to grow. Its answer is always a resounding ‘Yes!’ to my innermost feelings and beliefs. I know this because I am a perfect individualization of this Power, manifesting in the physical plain as my body. My conscious and subconscious minds, which together form my consciousness, have created every experience in my life and played a role in every result that I have accomplished. I know that by creating a bigger idea for my life, and by planting the seeds of that idea in the fertile soil of my consciousness, I am creating an even bigger, better, and more magnificent experience of life. In this very moment I create this bigger idea; an idea of happiness, joy, love, peace, health, and abundance. I plant these seeds as I release this idea into the Universe and allow Its Power to provide the necessary conditions and circumstances for these seeds to grow quickly, harmoniously, and without resistance. I am open and receptive to moments of inspiration and know that it is already done in the absolute. I am thankful for this moment and for the opportunity to know the Truth and to share It with others. With overflowing gratitude I release my bigger idea and know that it is done in perfect harmony in accord with the Laws of Nature. And so it is!

Until next time,
