Change One Behaviour

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Earlier this week I wrote about how your power comes from taking action, and yesterday I encouraged you to do one thing from your ‘ideal life’ that you can do right now. If you look at self-development materials, there are dozens of strategies presented that you can benefit from. If you read a book on client acquisition and retention, there are also countless creative ways that you can use to benefit your business. All this choice can be overwhelming, which often can result in choice paralysis.

I think this is a very appropriate post for today, considering that tomorrow we enter the year 2010, and many of you are likely making New Year’s resolutions. I suggest that that you forget about all of your resolutions, but one. Pick one thing that you can do differently this year based on the image of your ‘ideal life’. This can be something regarding your-self, it can be something regarding your relationships, it can be for your business, or it can be something entirely different. When you narrow all your resolutions down to that one thing, make up your mind that you will start doing that one thing, and doing it well! This should make the whole process a lot less intimidating, thus increasing your chances for actually following through.

On that note, I want to wish you all a Happy New Year!

Until next year,

PS. Next post will be on Monday…

Start Acting Like The Ideal You

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

On Monday I shared with you a visualization technique that I use, which involves picturing myself living my perfect life. Today I want to submit to you the idea that once you can picture what you are like as the ‘ideal you’, start acting it out. It will make you feel, even if for a split second, like you are actually living your ideal life, and that feeling will attract people and/or situations into your life that, if you act on them, will bring you closer to actually living your ideal life.

For example, on Monday, I mentioned that when I spend an extended period of time visualizing my ‘ideal wardrobe’, I replace one or two things the next day to match the picture. Another example that I can give you is regarding my body that I see as being fit, healthy, flexible, and at my ideal weight. My strategy for flexibility is yoga, which I have been skipping on for some time now. When I picture the start to my ‘ideal day’, yoga is always a part of it, so that encourages me to actually do yoga in the morning. Same goes for going to the gym, staying active, and eating well.

So as you picture your ‘ideal self’, your ‘ideal day’, and your ‘ideal life’, see what parts of that ‘ideal’ you can experience today…right now. What is it? Did you make you pick? Now go ahead and do it! Yes…right now! Remember, the power comes from taking action!

Until next time,

Knowledge Is Only The Potential

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

You have probably heard people say that ‘knowledge is power’. I disagree – I believe that knowledge is only potential power. The true power comes from you acting on that knowledge. You probably know dozens of strategies or activities that you should be doing to get a certain result that you are looking for, but you are not doing any of them. If simple knowledge was enough, you’d get the results just from knowing. But you don’t, so evidently, action is required.

Striving to acquire knowledge can be a dangerous thing. Based on my own experience, there are times when I am afraid to take action for some reason and use the acquisition of knowledge as an excuse for not taking the required action. It can get really bad at time – you can be in a constant learning state, stretching your mind, knowing everything there is to know about a subject, yet not accomplishing anything useful. You can even think about the area of self-development. I have read many books, listened to a lot of programs, and watched a number of seminars – I got a lot of knowledge (which I am sharing with you through this blog). But once again, the results come through application. Someone else can take a single book and actually apply every strategy presented, and I assure you that this person will be way ahead of the person who has all the knowledge and lacks action.

Don’t get me wrong here – knowledge is important too! Like with many things, knowledge is on one end of the stick, while action is on the other. You need to find a happy medium where you take action and also take the time to learn more about the subject at hand. If you are not learning the right strategies, you can be going east looking for a sunset. So the point that I want to drive home in this post is this: study, grow, expand your awareness and your knowledge, but do not use acquisition of knowledge as a cop out for not taking the required action.

Until next time,

Your Ideal Life Visualization

Monday, December 28th, 2009

This week I want to continue with the success/money theme, but bring the topic down to earth and hopefully get you to think about some application. And I will start the week off by sharing with you a visualization that I go through on the regular basis, which I call ‘The Ideal Life’. It is one of my favourite visualizations and I do it when I go to bed. I know that some do not recommend activating your brain before sleep, but it seems to work for me. In any case, try it out whenever you feel like it and stick to what works for you.

So, this is what I do…I start with myself and spiral out to my surroundings. The first thing I visualize is how I want to feel and respond to different situations when living my ideal life. Things like ‘calm’ and ‘in control of my emotional state’ quickly come to mind. Then I picture my body as I want it to be – healthy, fit, flexible, at 175lb. Then I move on to the clothes that I wear throughout the year – I picture the way I want to dress. Whenever I focus a lot on the ‘ideal wardrobe’, I tend to get rid of a few things the next day and get one or two items that fit the picture. Once I am done with the ’self’, I move on to more external things.

I picture the different relationships in my life – existing and otherwise – and how they are developing. I picture my bedroom, my home office, my house with surroundings. I picture my workplace and the employees. I picture my car. I visualize going through the day – waking up, doing yoga, getting dressed, going to work, coming home, etc, etc. I picture other things that I am doing, like travel, skydiving, skiing, etc. I imagine the different situations that I want to find myself in, like going to a chalet by some hot springs in the winter with close friends or family. I look at the different aspects of my ideal life and at times give more attention to some parts than others.

Since I do it as I am going to bed, I rarely get through the entire thing, so sometimes I will start at another point – not my inner self. I truly enjoy this exercise and hopefully you will as well. I would love to hear you feedback and experience with this visualization.

Until next time,

Spiritual Mind Treatment (2009.12.25)

Friday, December 25th, 2009

It is Friday, so I am going to share another Spiritual Mind Treatment with you. Lately, I have been practicing at making them shorter and more to the point, instead of more elaborate Treatments like I have done in the past. As always, take these words as your own if you choose.

I know that I live in an Energetic Universe where Energy is the fundamental fabric that runs through all life and all creation – all that is. This Energy cannot be created or destroyed, It permeates, penetrates, and fills the inter-spaces of the Universe and It can only change form. I know thought to be the starting point of all energetic transformations of one form into another. I know that at the fundamental level I too am Energy and realize that my physical experience is my own creation – it is the result of thoughts and beliefs held in my conscious and subconscious mind. I realize that, thus far, a lot of my thoughts were subconscious and automatic, but now I am shining a light of consciousness on my subconscious mind. I am actively choosing my thoughts, so here and now I am choosing thoughts of health, love, happiness, joy, abundance, and prosperity. I am thankful for my deep understanding and appreciation of the Universal Laws and my role in the creative process. I release my words, knowing that I am speaking the Truth, knowing that it is already done in peace and harmony, and so it is!

Happy Holidays! Until Monday,

The Amount Of Money You Make…

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Bob Proctor talked about how the amount of money that you make is directly proportional to:

  1. The need for what you do,
  2. Your ability to do it, and
  3. The difficulty that would come with replacing you.

Bob Proctor says that point number one pretty much takes care of itself if you are currently working. Otherwise, if there was no need for what you do, you would not be working in that field. It is a little more tricky if you are thinking of staring your own business. In that case you will need to do some market research to see if there is a need for what you want to do.

Now if you think about it, if you just focus on improving your ability to do whatever it is that you are doing, it will automatically become more and more difficult to replace you. So I suggest that you only focus on becoming the best in whatever it is that you are doing. That way you will become irreplaceable, and like Bob Proctor said, the same people who were paying him $4,000 a year are now paying him $4,000 an hour! This is one of those very simple, yet truly profound concepts that you NEED to get if you are going to make a lot of money.

Tomorrow is time for a Spiritual Mind Treatment, so I hope you ‘tune in’.

Until next time,

Required Income For Your Ideal Life

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

A good friend of mine shared with me recently an exercise from Jack Canfield’s book The Success Principles that involved figuring out the amount of money that I need to live my ideal life. Pretty much what you need to do is to make a list of all the things you want to do and have and then figure out the cost of doing those things. The instructions for the exercise suggest going into as much detail as possible. When you figure out this number, it will give you a target to shoot for. I suggest coming up with this ‘ideal life’ amount for 1-2 years from now, 5 years from now, 10 years from now, and 20 years from now. Chance are the figure will change as you go because now you may be thrilled about taking any kind of vacation, but later on you may want to fly first class and stay in 5-star hotels. And the reason why I suggest doing it in a step-by-step manner is because a 1-2 year figure will likely be smaller and more believable than a 20 year figure. And when the income goal is more believable, you are more likely to actually act and do something to move towards that income goal.

So here are some of the suggestions to get you started as far as the expenditure categories are concerned…

  • What kind of a home do you want to live in? Where? How much does it cost? What would be the montly payment?
  • What kind of car(s) would you like to drive? How much do they cost? How much is insurance, gas, and maintenance?
  • What kind of places do you want to go to eat to? How much is the meal? How often do you want to go out?
  • What kind of other actvities do you want to do? What kind of sports? How often do you want to do them? How much does it cost?
  • What kind of causes would you like to support? How much do you want to contribute monthly?
  • What kind of vacations would you like to take? Where? How often? How much do they cost?
  • Would you like to help out your parents? How much do you want to contribute?
  • Would you like to provide your children with education? How much does that education cost?
  • What kind of ‘toys’ would you like to have? Motorcycles? Boats? Airplanes? What the cost of the ‘toy’, insurance, and maintenance?
  • Would you like to buy a small country?
  • How much would you like to invest on monthly basis?
  • Would you like to own any vacation properties? Where? What is the cost?
  • What kind of furniture would you like to have? What is the cost?
  • What kind of clothing would you like to wear? What is the spending budget that you would like to have?
  • How much do you want to spend on self-development and learning?
  • How much would it take to do all the personal care activities, like massages, yoga, acupuncture, etc?
  • How much would it cost to pay all the bills that you may have, like food, cell phone, internet, etc?
  • Would you like to go to plays, concerts, or sporting events? How often? How much do the tickets cost for where you want to sit?

Hopefully this gets your creative juices flowing…If you would like to share your ‘ideal life’ numbers, please do so!

Until next time,

How Much Is Enough?

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Continuing on with the topic of money… I find it a bit of a challenge, but not too difficult to help others see how more of a financial abundance will make their lives more comfortable. One of the questions that often comes up in conversations about money and my goals regarding money, is “how much is enough?”. While I have set amounts for certain stages of my life, ultimately my answer is ‘the more, the merrier’. Now I’ll be honest here – I do not win people over to my side with that comment. You may be put off by that comment as well, so in this post I want to briefly explain the logic behind my reasoning.

Many of you realize that it takes money to do stuff – well, most stuff. I want to make it clear that I do not want to have a whole bunch of cash just for the sake of having it. I do want to have a whole bunch of cash in order to do things with it. Sure, having nice things and doing fun things, like travel, are part of the deal and will benefit mainly me and those who I travel with, as well as the people and businesses who will be on the receiving end of the transaction. However there are a lot of ideas and causes that I would like to support and be involved in, and it takes money to do that.

We can be frustrated with how the major automakers are ignoring the electric technology until the cows come home. But a few ambitious people took matters into their own hands, pulled some cash together, and started Tesla Motors. These are the types of things I am planning to be involved in. Will they make more money than they invested? I sure hope and expect that they will! Why shouldn’t they? They are providing an excellent product that benefits the world! Sounds to me like they HAVE to be compensated for their efforts. I also plan to do things like Doug Tompkins who is one of the founders of The North Face and ESPRIT. He took his fortune and bought acres upon acres of forest in Chile and with the vision of donating it back to the people as a protected national park.

So the more capital I have at my disposal, the more great things I will be a part of. And I think that is a worthy goal.

Another thing to consider are the answer to the questions, “how much love is enough?”, or “how much knowledge is enough?”, or “how much peace is enough?”. With all of these we do not put some arbitrary cap on it, so why do so with money?

I encourage you to think about the things that you would do with more capital and then start thinking in the direction of creating more of that capital!

Until next time,

Is Making A Lot Of Money A Sin?

Monday, December 21st, 2009

As I mentioned last Thursday, this week is dedicated to the topic of money. I wanted to start off by addressing a concept that many people have engraved in their minds about how it is sinful to have money, especially A LOT of money! Usually 5 minutes do not pass before the person I am talking to brings up ‘the money is the root of all evil’ line from the Bible. I do not use the Bible as a reference book for my life, but I do know enough to suggest that the person go and re-read their Bible. The actual line is that ‘the love of money is the root of all evil’, while ‘the money is the root of all evil’ crap is something someone made up, in my opinion, to suppress ambition and to keep people in line. Do you notice the difference between the two?

Money is simply a tool that facilitates the exchange of value between people. It is not mean to make you happy, though it can make you comfortable. So in the words of Bob Proctor, if money does not make a difference in whether you are happy or not, might as well have it, so that if you are miserable, at least you can be miserable in comfort.:o)

So, if money is the exchange of VALUE, it must mean that you have to offer VALUE in order to receive money. So the more money you have, the more value you must have provided! And this makes me want to ask you the following question, “Is being poor as sin?”, since it means you have not provided a lot of value! Now if the things I have said before did not ruffle your feathers, that one must have pushed you over the top!

Now you may say that you are volunteering and obviously providing value, but are not getting money in return. While that is a valid point on the surface, it is flawed because value does not have to come from the very same source. Maybe you are getting a lot of perks and other benefits, which can also be considered as VALUE. Or maybe your volunteering experience puts you in a position to get a job with a much better pay than you may have had otherwise, so that money comes from a different area. You may also bring up an example of a drug dealer who makes a lot of money but destroys lives of his or her customers. Again, you are forgetting a simple fact that the drug dealer is providing VALUE to drug users. Yes, drugs are bad for us, but so are many things, the only difference being their legal status and the speed with which they destroy us.

I hope that this will help you look at money a little differently. Your thoughts?

Until next time,

Spiritual Mind Treatment (2009.12.18)

Friday, December 18th, 2009

Happy Friday! Here is another Spiritual Mind Treatment. Take these words as your own if you so desire.

I know that Energy is the one and only underlying fabric of all existence that manifests in many forms as my physical and spiritual reality. Thought is the force and immutable Divine Law is the governing factor aback of all creation. I recognize the Law to be the perfect mirror that reflects my thoughts into my physical reality each and every time with no exception.

I know by the virtue of my very existence that I am a perfect individualized expression of the Infinite Mind. Through this recognition, I claim my life-time access to all that is available to the Love and to all that is possible to the Law.

As I open my mind and allow it to be in tune with the Infinite Intelligence, I tap into the pure potential of the Universe to create my perfect life. I know that the Law is always saying ‘Yes’ as It turns my thoughts into my direct experiences.

In this perfect moment I am overflowing with gratitude for my ever-expanding consciousness. I am deeply grateful for my recognition, understanding, and acceptance of the Truth and for the flawless action of the Law.

I set my words free, turn them over to the care of the Infinite Mind, and allow the Law to act through me. I let my Light shine, I let the Energy flow, and I know that it is already done in perfect harmony. And so it is”!

Until Monday,

V
