Yoga

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Keeping with the spiritual theme of the week, I’d like to go into the weekend with a brief talk about yoga. Much like with meditation, there are numerous different yoga practices, with postures ranging from light and easy ones, to very advanced ones where I wonder how people can bend that way. I personally do yoga pretty much every day. On some days I go through a lengthy yoga program, thought on the days where I do other forms of exercise, like a gym workout, I simply start my day with ’sun salutations’ to stretch out and get my body moving.

I personally enjoy more challenging yoga, where I feel like my body is getting a nice workout and a good stretch. However there are huge benefits to just doing some yoga stretches that don’t get your heart rate up that much. It’s nice that there is variety for everyone – you can always find what you are looking for.

And if you didn’t know that, yoga can be a meditative practice as well. Like with many forms of physical exercise, when you in the middle of it, it’s easier to stay in the present moment and focus on what you are doing, which is one form of meditation.

Group Meditation

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

For quite a long time I have considered mediation a very private practice and would always do it in the peace and quiet of my home. As time passed, I have head a few interesting things about the power of meditating in groups, so I decided to try it out. People experience different things, but I can only speak for myself when I talk about the ways that the experience of a group meditation is different from the one done in solitude. There are two main differences that I find.

The first difference that stands out is how much easier it is to meditate for longer periods when I am in a group. It is like you feed off the energy of other people. By myself, 20 minutes is roughly the longest time I can meditate for. In a group, however, 40 minutes passes by very quickly and almost unnoticeably. That aspect of it is very neat.

The second difference is that it can be more distracting in a group. At this point in my meditative practice, noise is a distraction, although more experienced meditators say that they feed off the noise to go deeper. So at home things tend to be a lot quieter, while in a group someone is coughing or moving around or whatnot. That makes it more difficult for me to get into it.

Group meditation is a neat experience, and if you have a chance, try it out. These days I do a mix of the two, so that I can feed off the energy and still enjoy the solitude.

Meditation vs Treatment

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

If you have been reading my blog for a little while, you’ll know that I start every week off with a Spiritual Mind Treatment. It is taught in the Science of Mind philosophy as the best, thought not the only, tool for recognizing the magnificence of the Universe, our bond with It, and aligning ourselves with the Universe so that we can live in harmony.

Meditation is another tool that is taught in this philosophy and it becomes part of a daily practice. There are many studies documenting the benefits of meditation, so it is nice to have some science behind it. Meditation, however, serves a very different purpose.

In this philosophy, treatment and meditation form a line of communication, for lack of a better word, with the Universal Subconscious. In treatment you essentially declare what you want to manifest in life; you create a mold for the Universe to fill. In meditation, on the other hand, you listen for any feedback that may come in the form of feelings, inspirations, or something else that can give you a clue as to what you may need to do in order to accomplish your goal. So to put it in a form of an analogy, treatment is talking and is active in nature while meditation is listening and is passive in nature.

I do realize that there are many different types of meditation. There are many active meditations that can be considered treatments, like when you visualize your ideal life. The meditation that I am talking about here is the type of meditation where you try to quiet your mind and get rid of your thoughts. And, of course, there are a number of meditations in between.

Meditation

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Last week I started exploring the conscious and subconscious thoughts and how dominant subconscious thoughts really are. I also presented a couple of strategies on how to empower your conscious thoughts. Today I want to talk about meditation as another tool for giving your conscious thoughts a little more power. Meditation will help by doing two things:

1. Bringing some subconscious thoughts into your conscious mind, and by
2. Quieting down your mind so you have fewer thoughts.

Both things will empower your conscious mind a little bit. By helping some of the subconscious thoughts surface into your consciousness, you can take a closer look at what is going on under the hood. This will also help if you want to mess around with your subconscious programming.

By observing your thoughts you make them dissipate at the same time. As you get better at meditating, you will be able to experience larger gaps between your thoughts where your mind is quiet and you just ‘are’. By reducing the number of thoughts that you have in the day, you are empowering your conscious mind more and more because there are fewer subconscious thoughts. I’m not saying that this will flip your life around, although it may, but it is definitely another tool for you to add to your arsenal.

What Does Testing Have To Do With It?

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Yesterday I mentioned the idea of testing spirituality in a traditional scientific laboratory environment. The interesting realization that I came to is that when you test something spiritual, you are setting yourself up for failure. The reason? Your expectation.

Quite often when a person learns about a spiritual law, like the Law of Attraction, they want to believe it but have hard time doing so. In order to decide whether to believe it or not, they decide to test it for themselves. Now even though this person may be testing to prove that it works, he or she is really testing it because they do not believe that it works. Do you notice the difference?

I mentioned before that it’s thoughts and, more importantly, feelings that are attractive in their nature and that for me to attract something that I desire, I need to think and feel as if it is true. So if I knew that the Law of Attraction worked, I would not be compelled to test it. The very act of testing sends out a vibration of doubt. Now this doesn’t mean that the Law of Attraction won’t work – it will always work because it is the Law – but it will appear to not work by not bringing what you want into your experience.

Say you want to test the Law of Attraction by attracting a cup of coffee, and when you really break it down, essentially you are not sure whether or not you’ll be able to attract that cup of coffee. Not being sure is what will greatly increase the likelihood of you not attracting the cup of coffee into your life. The Law still works because it was acting on your doubt, but it seems that it doesn’t work for you. The biggest factor is how strong is the feeling of doubt. The stronger the feeling of doubt, the harder it will be to have the Law work to your advantage.

What If We Are Wrong?

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

In my experience of sharing my spiritual beliefs and my approach to life with others, it’s just a matter of time before someone asks ‘What if you are wrong?’, implying that my beliefs do not shape my reality, and that Law of Attraction is more of a coincidence than a Law. My response to that is that it’s still worth doing. Tony Robbins said at one point that we should not worry as much about whether the belief is true, but rather whether it is useful. Now that sounds a little odd – ignore the facts as long as it is useful – but with spirituality, where the biggest affect is on your quality of life, useful works. Especially because it’s hard to prove anything spiritual in a traditional scientific lab environment.

I personally really enjoy talking with pure scientific minds about this stuff, because this often goes against what they know. And the challenges that I get from them are often very similar – they mention not being able to prove this in a double-blind study, or they refer to some cognitive bias as being the reason for my belief. But the beautiful thing is that regardless of what they want to believe, I still constantly attract the right people, the right opportunities, and the best parking spots into my experience.

What is exciting is that there is more and more evidence to support what I believe about how things work. Science is just starting to catch on. And as liberal as the scientific community paints themselves to be, according to the very same pure scientific minds, scientists cannot deviate too much in terms of what they study and publish without risking their carriers. I actually had one of my friends admit to me that, in the current environment, if someone was trying to do a lot more research in the ‘fluffy spiritual stuff’, they would have very hard time getting funding, even more trouble getting published, and would pretty much be burying their career. No wonder there are not a lot of paper on this subject. However that is slowly changing and it will be comical when I’ll get to say ‘Told you so!’ with a big grin on my face.

Which Reality Is Real?

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Well, the physical one – the one you can see, taste, touch, and experience! Right? Not exactly. In one of the Science of Mind classes, one of the facilitators, Dr. Kenn Gordon, pointed out the the physical world – the world where we know lack, limitation, and boundaries – is an illusion, while what people typically see as the ‘dream world’ – the place where everything is possible – is the Truth.

This can be a difficult idea to wrap your head around, but if you really think about it, you’ll realize that it’s actually the case. Now, I am not really talking about a world where you can fly, walk on water, and eat fire as being the real thing. We do, after all, live in a world with numerous laws which are all at work simultaneously. What I am talking about is how our experience of reality is fundamentally false because this experience is shaped by our beliefs.

Think of your beliefs as the electrical wiring in your house. While it is entirely possible to supply your house with much higher voltages and pump through much more current through the wires, if you were to do that, you would blow out your fuses, and failing that, would fry the entire electrical system and probably burn down your house. The electrical system that the house was built with physically limits the potential electrical power that you can put through it from the start. For you to pump more power through the system, you would need to re-wire the entire house (and find the appropriate power source). But if you always lived in that house and never heard about larger voltages and more powerful electrical currents, you’d think that 110V is all that is possible. But you know better than that.

Determining what is possible based on your current beliefs and the experience of life to date is, in my opinion, equivalent to saying that the wiring in your house is the end-all and the be-all of electrical potential. What I want to get across is that there is always a potential for more. You just need to re-wire your head with some beliefs that can candle the added juice of Life!

How Spiritual Are You?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Earlier this week I wrote a post on how we live in a perfect Universe and how our ability to bring that into our experience is directly related to our ability to internalize that very idea. I also want to define what I mean by ’spiritual’ in this case. You may have a different definition, but to me being ’spiritual’ means being in alignment with the Universe and Its Laws. So if I want to check how spiritual I am, I just need to look at my results. If the results reflect what I want, then I am being spiritual.

The logic here is pretty simple, and you may see it already. Results are essentially a measure of my spirituality. My ability to create in the physical plane is directly related to how well I embody and understand the Creative Process. So as my understanding becomes deeper, I get better at directing and focusing my energy and at knowing the Truth of my being, and as that happens, the automatic Universal response will be closer to what I want to create, thus my results will be more bang on. It forms a nice loop, in a way. I hope that makes sense!

The Perfect Universe

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

In the Science of Mind book I found a very interesting line that says that we already live in a Perfect Universe, but it needs to be seen mentally before It can become part of our experience. I thought that it is a perfect way to express the need for evolution of our individualized consciousness. It is exactly what the people who are going through the conscious growth and expansion, who I have had the privilege to talk to, say.

The Universe is perfect and it is precise. There are rules in place that govern how things work. These rules are impersonal and work every time. It’s like with investing – it doesn’t matter who invests their money in at 10%, 7 years later their investment will double. And it also does not matter what the person will use the money for afterwards. And the rule, or Law, that I am fascinated with, is the one of Attraction, which is activated through thought and feeling. And because we are the constant producers of thoughts and feelings, the concept that we live in a perfect Universe truly needs to be seen mentally before It can become part of our experience. If you want to see lack, you will experience lack. If you want to see abundance, you will experience abundance. And if you don’t want to see lack, you will still experience lack, since the Universe takes the absolute value of your thoughts and feelings, and since they are about lack, you will get lack. So I look for health, abundance, happiness, and love. Period.

Manifesting Parking Spots

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

Yesterday I spoke about dwelling on a result versus knowing the result as your reality. Ever since I have watched The Secret, I have been very impressed by the concept of applying the Law of Attraction to parking spots. I have had mixed experiences with this. Even before watching The Secret, I always parked close to the doors at my gym. Somehow I just knew that that is where I would park. And the funny thing is, it’s like those spots were reserved for me. Someone would ALWAYS leave just before I got there, even during peak hours where most people parked a good distance away. But that was the only place where I was able to get a parking spot that I wanted consistently.

Pretty much in every other case, it wasn’t that simple. I would either have to circle the block several times, or wait for a while, or just park elsewhere entirely. A good friend of mine, on the other hand, has a parking spot reserved for him wherever he goes. It’s amazing! I was in a car several times when we’d be going for dinner or a movie and he would drive by an available parking spot, literally 10 meters away from the door, only to have the car right in front of the door drive out and leave.

Since the realization I spoke about yesterday, things have changed dramatically when it comes to parking. Now I have been able to manifest a parking spot right in front of the doors several times. The big difference is that now I simply know where I am going to park. Before, though, I kept picturing the car leaving and in reality only hoping that the parking spot would be available. And on a deeper level, I was worried that the parking spot would not be there. No wonder I had some trouble with manifesting what I wanted! Now though, I know how to do it the right way.

Am I the only one who thinks this is really cool?
