Where Do New Ideas Come From

I had a question pop into my head a few minutes ago – where do new ideas come from? So I decided to write a post about that very question.

One explanation, which is rather basic and which does not really answer the question, is that new ideas come when our brains taking the information that we know and extrapolating it to come up with a new idea. OK, cool. The issue that I have with that explanation is that, in that case, coming up with new ideas would involve a step-by-step process, much like the process we went through in math class while solving problems, where we took known information, applied some equations, and arrived at a result. In my experience, when I come up with a new idea, it’s nothing like a process – the idea somehow appears in my conscious mind.

So a partial explanation is that new ideas come into our conscious mind from our subconscious mind. Our subconscious minds go through the problem solving process and just push the idea into our conscious mind so that it appears to just ‘pop’ into our head. OK, so the subconscious mind may do the step-by-step process, but how does it extrapolate into new territory? And more importantly, how does it come with truly new, revolutionary ideas? And what is stored in our subconscious mind anyway?

If we treat our subconscious minds as a stand-alone entity, then it would be impossible to have anything there that we have not yet experienced. At birth your subconscious mind is ‘empty’ and as you grow up and go through experiences, it fills up with information and ideas. Those are the only things we could have in it. So that still does not answer how we come up with truly new ideas.

Well, I am going to argue that new ideas come to our subconscious mind through its connection with the Universal Subconscious – the Universal Mind where all ideas and solutions already exists. Our ability to access these ideas in the Universal Subconscious is directly proportional to our awareness and understanding of this concept, our acceptance of it, and our willingness to listen to it. Everyone accesses the Universal Subconscious at one point or another, at least everyone who has had a ‘brand new’ idea in their life. Some people, like Nicola Tesla, could access the Universal Subconscious pretty much at will. That is a pretty exciting position to be in, isn’t it?

Is the argument logical? Do you have ideas of your own?

Until next time,

V
