This post a result of a realization that I had as a result of a conversation with a friend of mine. Him and I were talking about work and business, how so many people are very busy and are not doing what they truly want, and how so many of us are going through life saying that we do not know what would be an inspiring calling to follow. I must admit, that at this point in my life, I cannot say that I am fully involved in what is very inspiring to me. Sure, there are some things that I do that are inspiring and there are projects that I am working on that, I think, are more ‘on-track’, but there is nothing that I can say for sure is my ‘calling’.
When I thought about it, I could express much better what I felt inspired me. To me, in broad terms, it is helping people through education and empowerment. I think this is why I started this blog, which I feel is one of those things that I am doing that is more ‘on-track’. Then, I remembered another friend of mine who was trying to move up the ladder in the job that, he admitted, he did not want to do, who, at the same time, had a good idea of something he would like to do, but who quickly found excuses for not doing it.
That made me wonder if people actually know what is inspiring to them, but are afraid to admit it to themselves because of the magnitude of time, effort, and capital that they may have to dedicate to their calling. Instead, they are saying that they have no clue what they want to do because it is a lot easier to just say that than to admit that you know, but are not doing it.
And that leads me to the main question of this post – do we fear our own inspiration?
